2001-2003

In 2001, FLATOUTbear was born. We officially registered the business in 2002, and launched our very first product line. We sold over 200 bears that first year.

2005–2006

We opened our first small store in Mansfield Street, Rozelle in 2005. Prue, co-founder, flew to Las Vegas for a trade show with Austrade, marking our first steps into the international market.

Our first Australian and London trade shows were in 2006 and introduced the FLATOUTbear Baby collection.

Our bears soon found their way into the arms of celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Brooke Shields, Jennifer Lopez, Hugh Jackman, and Tom Cruise.

2007

We were awarded Best Stand at the AGHA Gift Fair, and FLATOUTbear made a TV appearance when Matt Damon, Owen Wilson and Keith Urban were gifted our bears on The Kerri-Anne Kennerley Show.

That same year, during the APEC Summit in Sydney, every international delegate was welcomed with a FLATOUTbear Koala on their hotel bed, a moment we’ll never forget.

2010–2012

FLATOUTbear won Toy of the Year by The Australian Women’s Weekly. We added two colours to our collection, Rosie and Bluey, and expanded our range with the launch of FLATOUTbunnies, a delightful addition to our ever-growing brand.

2013–2016

In 2013, we were proudly featured in MasterCard’s Locally Famous campaign and collaborated on the children’s book A Balloon Away by Rosa Park.

Our celebrity fan list kept growing, even Sarah Jessica Parker shared her FLATOUTbear on Instagram.

2017–2020

We introduced our plush baby rug collection in two shades, Milk and Latte, and added Leopard into our FLATOUTbear baby range.

In celebration of the Qantas centenary, we launched the FLATOUTbear x Qantas collection featuring Matilda Joey and Sandy Koala.

Amidst of the pandemic, major retailers like Sydney Duty Free joined our growing list of stockists.

2021–2022

We expanded our product range with shopping bags, gift boxes, and teddy bear cut-out cards.

New baby rug shades — Rosie and Leopard — were introduced, along with a hand-drawn Toile de Jouy print for our cotton muslin and jersey baby wraps, inspired by the whimsical world of our flat bears.

In celebration of our 21st birthday in 2022, we released a limited-edition hot pink FLATOUTbear and surprised some of our lucky fans.

2023–2025

FLATOUTbear was proudly featured in our first-ever museum exhibition at the prestigious Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

With exciting new products in the pipeline, we also celebrated reaching $50,000 in charitable donations, a beautiful reminder that we’re not only providing comfort, but also making a meaningful difference with every FLATOUTbear sold.
