Recently, we had the chance to travel back to our factory in China, where our soft, snuggly, and soothing flat bears are lovingly handmade. We have been lucky enough to visit many times, but we hadn’t been back since before COVID. The team welcomed us back so warmly.
The main purpose of our trip was to visit our amazing team responsible for making these cherished companions and to get a firsthand look at the manufacturing process.
Having partnered with this factory for more than two decades, visiting felt like returning home. While some people may question manufacturing in China, our experience tells a different story.
Our factory is an open, light, airy workshop with mobile phones ringing, laughter, chatter, all amidst the hum of sewing machines.
The women work the necessary hours, but if they have important events such as weddings, they can easily take a month off work. It’s a family-owned and operated factory, and the vibe is joyful and lovely.
The factory floor is filled with all stages of the bears being made. First, you are dealing with the unique natural material—Australian sheepskin, then to see it transformed into bears in two sizes and in a variety of seven to eight different colours is stunning.
Each bear is handmade and watching each one being made is mesmerizing. The bears may look simple but making them is quite hard.
The trip was also an opportunity to explore new and exciting additions to our collection that we cannot wait to share with you.
