Australia, one of the largest producers of high-quality sheepskin, provides us with the best material for our FLATOUTbear products. We source sheepskin from the meat industry, reducing waste and environmental impact.
Sheepskin is a sheep’s hide with wool still attached, known for its softness and insulation. Sometimes called lambskin if it comes from younger sheep, so luxurious and cosy.
But why is sheepskin so special?
We remember the early years of our business, using Sarah’s kitchen table to cut sheepskin, with fur all over the floor and on our clothes. It was chaotic but exciting because we knew we were creating something bear-y unique.
As FLATOUTbear grew, so did our family. Each child received their own FLATOUTbear and sheepskin rug, gifted from birth, starting a tradition tied to our business. Each item became a cherished keepsake, providing maximum comfort from infancy through the years.
It’s a firsthand experience we share all around the world. A natural material that has great qualities making it ideal for babies and kids.
🐑 Sheepskin naturally regulates temperature, keeping your little one warm in winter and cool in summer. Prue’s kids, Billy and Zinnia’s sheepskin rug remains in excellent condition, and even as they grow older, it is still their favourite cosy spot.

FLATOUTbear began with seven delightful colours of flat teddy bears and two colours of baby rugs, purely handmade from 100% Australian sheepskin.
Today, the collection has grown to nine colours—Koala, Latte, Milk, Rosie, Bluey, Chocolate, Honey, and Leopard— with two sizes: the original FLATOUTbear and FLATOUTbear Baby, along with the fabulous teddy bear-shaped baby rugs in four colours—Milk, Latte, Leopard, and Rosie.
Each is handmade by our all-women manufacturing team, dedicated to bring joy and comfort all around the world.
